Planning for the future of recreation

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is planning for the long-term renewal and expansion of recreation facilities and amenities across the Comox Valley.

In 2023, the Comox Valley Recreation Commission identified priorities to help address growing demand for recreation services, improve access to facilities, and plan for sustainable infrastructure. These priorities include:

  • A second artificial turf field
  • Potential improvements to aquatic and ice facilities\Sports field amenities and access improvements
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from recreation facilities

Update: New artificial turf field

The new artificial turf field at G.P. Vanier Secondary School will open for community bookings on September 8 2026.

The field will provide additional year-round space for field sports, including:

  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Field lacrosse
  • Field hockey
  • Rugby and football practice

Field use and bookings


During the school year, Comox Valley Schools will use the field on most weekdays during school hours.

Community bookings will be available:

  • Weekdays after 5 pm
  • Weekends
